Buy or transfer a domain with Aria
Buy a domain inside Aria, move one in from another registrar, keep it in your workspace, and manage renewal, DNS records and transfers out.
In this page
You can buy a domain inside Aria, or move in one you already have from GoDaddy, Namecheap or another registrar. Either way Aria renews it, runs its DNS and sets the records your apps need. You pay for a domain a year at a time, and the price is shown before you pay.
How do I buy a domain?
- Open Domains and choose Buy a domain.
- Choose which project it goes to, or Leave it unassigned to keep it in the workspace.
- Search for a name. Aria shows what is free, with the first-year price and the yearly renewal.
- Add the names you want to the cart.
- Pay once for the whole cart on Stripe’s secure form.
Aria registers the domain, connects it and turns on HTTPS. This takes a minute or two, and each step shows as it happens. Domain registrations and renewals are not refundable once submitted. The full rules are in the terms.
You can also buy a domain while you set up a new project, or ask Aria AI. It fills the cart, and the chat shows the total with Buy now. Nothing is charged before you approve.
How do I keep a domain for later?
A domain left unassigned stays in your workspace and keeps renewing. Open it and choose Use it for a project when you are ready. Aria points it at the project and service you choose, and HTTPS follows by itself. Unassign takes it off a project again and keeps it in the workspace.
How does renewal work?
Auto-renewal is on when you buy. Aria charges 3 days before the date, from your prepaid balance first and then your default way to pay. The domain’s page shows the date, the amount and each past renewal.
To stop, open the domain and choose Turn off renewal, then type its name. It stays yours until the end of the paid period, and Aria emails you before then. When it lapses, its addresses stop working and your projects move back to their free addresses by themselves. Nothing is refunded. You can choose Renew after all, unless it is within 3 days of expiring.
How do I change its DNS records?
Open the domain and go to DNS records. You can add, change and delete records. Aria’s own records are locked, because your apps need them. New records can take a few minutes to reach everyone. Ask Aria to add records hands the job to Aria AI.
How do I move a domain to Aria?
Choose Transfer to Aria Domains in Domains. There are five steps.
- Domain. Enter it. Aria checks it can move and what it costs.
- Unlock. Choose its current registrar, and follow that registrar’s steps to unlock it.
- Code. Paste the transfer code, also called an auth or EPP code. Aria keeps it encrypted and deletes it once the domain has moved.
- Pay. Pick a project, or keep it in the workspace, then pay. The move adds a year to its expiry where the registry does that.
- Moving. Your old registrar lets it go. It keeps working the whole time.
Most transfers finish within 5 to 7 days. Your old registrar may email you to approve it, and approving makes it faster. You can leave the page, and Aria emails you when it is done. Some registries charge nothing for a transfer, and Aria then shows that it is free.
A domain cannot move yet if:
- it was registered or moved in the last 60 days;
- it is locked at its current registrar;
- it has expired or expires very soon, so renew it there first;
- its registry is holding it.
If Aria Domains cannot take its ending, connect it as your own domain instead. If the domain is already with Aria Domains in another account, Aria support moves it for you by a change of owner.
How do I move a domain away from Aria?
Open the domain, go to Danger zone and choose Transfer it away, then type its name. Aria unlocks it and shows its transfer code once. Renewal stops, and the domain keeps working here until your new registrar takes it, usually within 5 to 7 days. Keep it with Aria cancels this.
Once it has gone, Domains lists it as moved out for 30 days. Aria no longer renews it or runs its DNS, so any addresses still using it need their records at your new registrar.
