Aria vs Supabase Cloud. Supabase, on your server.
Supabase is the fastest way to get Postgres with auth, storage and realtime. Aria runs that same open-source Supabase stack on a server that is yours alone, next to your app, API and workers, and keeps it running for you.
In one line: Stay on Supabase Cloud for one small project on its free or base plan. Choose Aria when you run several projects, need more database memory, or want your app and database on the same machine at one price.
Aria and Supabase Cloud, side by side
Supabase Cloud’s pricing model as described on its pricing page, checked 22 October 2026. Prices change: check there for current figures. Aria: from £9 a month ex VAT (draft prices), in GBP.
| Aria | Supabase Cloud | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | The official self-hosted Supabase stack (Postgres, Auth, REST, Realtime, Storage, Studio) on your dedicated server | Managed Supabase projects on Supabase’s platform |
| How you pay | One flat monthly price per server | A plan per organisation, plus compute per project and usage |
| More projects | As many as the server’s memory holds, at no extra cost | Each extra project adds compute |
| Your app and workers | On the same server as the database | Hosted elsewhere (another platform) |
| Database memory | The server’s memory, up to 32 GB on Scale Plus | Chosen per project by compute add-on |
| Moving in | A guided move from Supabase Cloud (database, auth users, storage) | — |
| AI coding agents | aria.yaml plus MCP, with approval gates; Supabase’s own MCP on your server | Supabase MCP and CLI |
| Where it runs | A server you choose, yours alone | Supabase’s managed regions |
What Supabase Cloud does best
Supabase Cloud gets you a production Postgres with auth, storage and realtime in minutes, with branching and a polished studio. For a single project, its free and base plans are generous.
Choose Aria when
- You run several Supabase projects (staging, production, side products) and want them on one server at one price.
- Your app, API and background workers should sit next to the database instead of on another platform.
- You need more database memory than your plan’s compute size, without per-project add-ons.
- You want to own the server your users’ data lives on.
Stay on Supabase Cloud when
- One small project fits the free or base plan comfortably.
- You rely on features of the managed platform that self-hosted Supabase doesn’t include, such as branching.
Moving from Supabase Cloud to Aria
- Add a Supabase database to aria.yaml (your coding agent writes it, or Aria’s example does).
- Pick a server with room for Supabase (8 GB and up); Aria sets up the stack.
- Run the guided move: the database, auth users and storage come across from Supabase Cloud.
- Point your app at the new keys and URLs Aria shows you, and launch.
Questions
Is Aria’s Supabase the real Supabase?
Yes: the official open-source self-hosted Supabase stack (Postgres, GoTrue auth, PostgREST, Realtime, Storage and Studio), set up and kept running by Aria.
How much memory does Supabase need on Aria?
Aria recommends a server with at least 8 GB for Supabase plus an app. Aria estimates your whole stack from aria.yaml and suggests the smallest plan that fits.
Can I move from Supabase Cloud to Aria?
Yes. Aria includes a guided move for the database, auth users and storage files.
Do I pay per project on Aria?
No. You pay per server; put as many projects on it as its memory holds.
Can my coding agent use Supabase’s MCP on Aria?
Yes. Aria serves Supabase’s MCP for your server alongside its own, with the same approval gates.
How much does Aria cost compared with Supabase Cloud?
Aria charges one flat monthly price per server, from £9 a month ex VAT (draft prices), in GBP, with no charges per seat, per app, per database or per request. Supabase Cloud’s pricing is on its own pricing page (https://supabase.com/pricing); its model is summarised in the table above, checked 22 October 2026.

One server. One price.
An Aria plan is one monthly price for one server. Run as many apps, workers and databases on it as it can hold, and invite your agents too: nothing is metered per seat, per app or per request.
Own the cloud. Your AI runs it.
Let your coding agent write aria.yaml and see which server fits your stack.
