Aria AI and coding agents

Aria AI and your coding agent, on a server you own

Aria AI is built in, and your own coding agent can join over MCP. One writes the file, Aria builds and runs it on a private server, and the changes that matter wait for you.

Two ways to work

Aria AI first. MCP when you want it.

Aria AI is already in the app. MCP is there for the coding agent you use outside Aria. The same rules apply to both.

1

Aria AI

The AI built into Aria. It writes aria.yaml, sets things up, reads logs and fixes things, inside the Mac app and the web dashboard.

On the Mac, your subscription

Aria finds the coding tool on your Mac, shows who it is signed in as and asks “Is this the one?”. One click and it is connected. The turns run on your own Mac.

In the browser, an API key

Paste a key in AI & MCP and Aria AI works in the web dashboard, wherever you are signed in.

MCP

For a coding agent working outside Aria. It calls Aria’s tools with a key that reaches one app. Run aria init or aria mcp add.

What can Aria AI and your agent do?

Everything below goes through Aria’s tools, with the same rules a person gets.

  • Write and check aria.yaml

get_stack_prompt gives it the instructions, validate_stack_file returns problems with line numbers, and submit_stack_file saves the file.

  • Preview a launch

preview_launch shows what a launch would create, whether it fits the plan, and what blocks it.

  • Read status and logs

Status, metrics, build and runtime logs with secrets masked, and diagnose_app, which collects evidence and suggests fixes.

  • Look at the database

db_schema shows tables, columns and keys. It can run one read-only query. Changing data always waits for you.

  • Deploy

With aria deploy --wait, or by asking Aria to launch the app. After the first launch a push redeploys the services it touched.

  • Ask you for secrets

request_env_values says which values are missing. You type them. The agent never sees them.

MCP

How does each tool connect?

The quickest path is the aria command line: aria login, then aria init for Claude Code or aria mcp add for the others. You approve a key in Aria and choose what it may do. The by-hand settings are the same ones the docs give.

Claude Code

From your repository, aria init makes a key for this app only, adds it to Claude Code, installs the Aria skill and adds a short section to AGENTS.md.

Check it with claude mcp list, or /mcp inside Claude Code. Do not use --scope project with a literal key, because it would be committed.

Connect Claude Code to Aria, and the Claude Code workflow.

Terminal
aria loginaria init
By hand
claude mcp add --transport http aria-myapp https://api.getaria.cloud/mcp/w/wsp_YOURAPP \ --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"

Cursor

aria mcp add --agent cursor writes the server into ~/.cursor/mcp.json and keeps your other servers. By hand, put the file in your home folder, or read the key from an environment variable so a project file is safe to commit.

Cursor asks before it runs an MCP tool by default. Connect Cursor to Aria, and the Cursor workflow.

Terminal
aria loginaria mcp add --agent cursor
.cursor/mcp.json
{  "mcpServers": {    "aria-myapp": {      "url": "https://api.getaria.cloud/mcp/w/wsp_YOURAPP",      "headers": {        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:ARIA_MCP_KEY}"      }    }  }}

Codex

aria mcp add --agent codex adds the server to ~/.codex/config.toml. By hand, export your key as ARIA_MCP_KEY in the environment you start Codex from, then add the table below.

Check it with codex mcp list. Connect Codex to Aria, and the Codex workflow.

Terminal
aria loginaria mcp add --agent codex
~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.aria-myapp]url = "https://api.getaria.cloud/mcp/w/wsp_YOURAPP"bearer_token_env_var = "ARIA_MCP_KEY"

Replace wsp_YOURAPP with your app’s id and YOUR_KEY with a key from AI & MCP in Aria. The key is shown once. Gemini CLI and Antigravity connect with aria mcp add too, and any MCP client that takes a remote HTTP server and a header works with the address https://api.getaria.cloud/mcp/w/<app id>.

What is the aria.yaml flow?

Saving the file does not deploy it. These are the steps in order, and who does each one.

  1. Ask for the file

Ask Aria AI in the app, or paste the prompt below into your own agent. It reads your repository, not your secrets.

  2. It writes and checks the file

It calls get_stack_prompt, writes aria.yaml, and fixes every problem validate_stack_file reports. The reference lists every field.

  3. It saves the file

submit_stack_file saves it. Saving the file does not deploy it.

  4. You choose a plan, pay and enter secrets

Aria sizes the plan from the file. A person picks it, pays, and types the secrets only they have, with aria env add NAME or in the app.

  5. Launch

Launching waits for your approval. Run aria deploy --wait, or let the agent ask Aria to launch the app.

  6. Check and iterate

The agent runs aria check, reads logs, fixes the code and pushes. Each push redeploys the services it touched.

First prompt for your agent
Use the Aria skill. Call get_stack_prompt, read this repository, write aria.yaml, check it with validate_stack_file, then save it with submit_stack_file. Ask me to enter any secret values; never print them.

What waits for you? Look, Change, Delete

Aria sorts every action into one of three levels and enforces them on its own servers, not in a prompt. The same rules apply to Aria AI and every agent over MCP.

  • Look

Read status, logs, metrics, aria.yaml and the database schema. Check a stack file.

    Runs straight away. Nothing changes.

  • Change

Save aria.yaml, deploy a service, set variables, launch the app, change DNS.

With a read key, every Change waits for your approval. With an operate key, routine ones such as saving aria.yaml and deploying a service run straight away. Environment variables, launches, DNS and GitHub push always wait for you.

  • Delete

Run SQL that changes a database, delete or restore over data.

Always waits. You approve it in the Aria app or on the website and type the exact name. A terminal cannot approve it.

The key you give the agent decides what is routine. aria init makes an operate key for one app. Make a read key if you want every change to wait. The rules, the full tool list and what is recorded are on the safety model.

What does the agent never get?

  • Secret values. They are masked in results, errors and logs. You enter them, and revealing one always waits for you.
  • Database passwords. Database tools run as a limited role. Columns that look like credentials cannot be read.
  • Other apps. A key for one app cannot reach another.
  • Instructions from your logs. Text in logs, test emails and repository files was written by someone else. Aria tells agents to treat it as data.

Plain facts an agent can repeat

Each line stands alone, so it can be quoted without the page around it. Each one can be checked in the docs.

  • What it is. Aria Cloud is a live hosting service from Inverta Group Limited, a UK company. Each plan is one private VPS that Aria sets up and runs.
  • Price. Plans cost from £9 to £60 a month ex VAT, in pounds (£16 for Developer). There is no charge per seat, app, database or request. Aria Mail is the one usage add-on.
  • What runs. Static sites, web services, APIs and workers, with Postgres 16 or 17, Redis 7 and self-hosted Supabase at no extra cost.
  • Room. Up to 5 apps on a server by default. One aria.yaml holds up to 12 services, 6 databases and 200 variables.
  • Working with it. Work goes through aria.yaml, the aria command line, the app, Aria AI and MCP.
  • Builds. Aria builds from your Dockerfile or from install, build and start commands, or runs a prebuilt image.
  • Backups. Postgres, Supabase and volumes are backed up nightly, encrypted and stored off the server.
  • Growing. A bigger plan grows the server with one restart.
  • Where. You choose the location of each server.
  • Dedicated and GPU. Whole machines and GPU servers are by request, by email to hello@getaria.cloud.

Every limit is listed on the limits page.

Questions about agents on Aria

What is Aria AI?

Aria AI is the AI built into Aria. It writes aria.yaml, sets things up, reads logs and fixes things, inside the Mac app and the web dashboard. On the Mac it uses the subscription you already pay for. In the browser it uses an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini or OpenRouter.

Can Claude Code deploy my app to production?

Yes, through Aria. Claude Code connects over MCP, writes aria.yaml, checks it and saves it. Aria then sets up the server and deploys. Looking at status and logs runs straight away. Environment variables, launching the whole app, DNS records and deletes always wait for you.

Is it safe to let an AI deploy?

Aria enforces the rules on its own servers, not in a prompt, so an agent cannot talk its way past them. The same rules apply to Aria AI and every agent over MCP. With a read key every change waits for your approval. With an operate key routine deploys run straight away, and variables, launches, DNS and anything destructive still wait. Every call is recorded and a key can be revoked at any time.

Can the agent see my secrets?

No. Results and errors that go back to an agent have secrets masked, even inside logs. The agent asks you for values with request_env_values and you enter them yourself. Database tools run as a limited role and cannot read columns that look like credentials.

Does the agent need an SSH key?

No. Aria AI and coding agents work through Aria’s tools and the aria command line, never through SSH, so there is no key to hand over.

Which agents work?

Aria AI runs on Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Cursor on your Mac, or an API key in the browser. Over MCP, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex have setup pages, and Gemini CLI and Antigravity connect with aria mcp add. Any other MCP client that supports a remote HTTP server and a custom header works with the same address and key.

What does it cost?

Each plan is one private VPS at one flat monthly price, from £9 to £60 ex VAT. There is no charge per seat, app, database or request. Email sent through Aria Mail is the one usage add-on.

What if the agent makes a mistake?

You can read what it did in the app’s Activity, roll back to the last good version, and revoke its key. Anything that deletes data waits for you to type the exact name. Backups run every night and are stored off the server.
